Finland Confirms China-Linked Hackers Behind 2021 Parliament Breach, Aligning with US and UK Observations

Finnish authorities have confirmed the involvement of APT31, in the March 2021 cyberattack on their parliamentary.

The incident, reported to the police in 2020, occured somewhere in fall of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. Early in the investigation, the Finnish police explored possible involvement of the APT31 a hacking group with ties to China. Investigators have since substantiated this line of inquiry and identified a suspect.

The investigation focuses on charges including espionage, unauthorized access to information systems, and breach of communication confidentiality.

UK And US

In related news, the UK has recently pinpointed China-backed hackers as responsible for significant cyberattacks in 2021 and 2022, with Oliver Dowden, the British Deputy Prime Minister, implicating Chinese state-affiliated groups in attacks on political institutions.
The US has responded to similar threats by imposing sanctions on Wuhan Xiaoruizhi Science and Technology Ltd., identified as a cover for the Chinese Ministry of State Security’s cyber operations.
